Core Requirement 2.4
The institution has a clearly defined and published mission statement
specific to the institution and appropriate to an institution of higher
education, addressing teaching and learning and, where applicable,
research and public service.

LSUA undertook a thorough strategic planning process in 2003-2004.
As part of that process, LSUA worked diligently to develop a
clearly-defined mission statement specific to the institution,
appropriate to an institution of higher education, and addressing all
aspects of its mission. This new mission statement became effective in
Fall 2004.
LSUA’s mission statement is:
Louisiana State University at Alexandria serves students and
enriches community life by providing high quality academic programs in
a learning environment that
- cultivates intellectual, professional, social, and economic growth;
- promotes research, service, and lifelong learning; and
- fosters diversity
Louisiana State University at Alexandria was founded in 1960 as a
two-year commuter campus. The Louisiana Legislature converted LSUA to
four-year status on June 5, 2001. One of nine educational institutions
in the Louisiana State University System, LSUA serves Rapides Parish
and surrounding Central Louisiana parishes. LSUA provides both
associate and baccalaureate degree programs as well as a wide range of
student support services, lifelong learning and professional
development offerings, and cultural and recreational opportunities.
This mission statement addresses LSUA’s role of providing a
quality collegiate academic experience and to assist its students to be
successful in attaining a quality academic foundation. The mission
statement further addresses other contributions that LSUA commits to
make to its students and to the community. LSUA’s mission statement was
approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors on August 20, 2004. [1] . The mission statement is published in the LSUA Catalog (p. 14) [2] , the LSUA Faculty Handbook (Section 1, p. 4-5) [3] , the LSUA Strategic Plan 2004 (p. 2) [4] , the LSUA Student Handbook 2005-2006 [5] , the LSUA Fact Book [6] and on the university’s website [7] .
