Comprehensive Standard 3.1.1
The institution has a clear and comprehensive mission statement that guides it; is approved by the governing board; is periodically reviewed by the board; and is communicated to the institution’s constituencies.

Compliant

In preparation for this conversion, LSUA undertook a thorough strategic planning process in 2003-2004. As part of that process, LSUA worked diligently to develop a clearly-defined mission statement specific to the institution, appropriate to an institution of higher education, and addressing all aspects of its mission. This new mission statement became effective in Fall 2004. LSUA’s mission statement is:

Louisiana State University at Alexandria serves students and enriches community life by providing high quality academic programs in a learning environment that

  • cultivates intellectual, professional, social, and economic growth;
  • promotes research, service, and lifelong learning; and
  • fosters diversity.

This mission statement is clear and comprehensive. It emphasizes LSUA’s role to provide a quality collegiate academic experience and to assist its students to be successful in attaining a quality academic foundation. The mission statement also addresses other contributions that LSUA commits to make to its students and to the community. LSUA’s mission statement was considered by the Faculty and Student Affairs Committee of the LSU Board of Supervisors on August 20, 2004 [1] View 1: Agenda and Minutes from the Faculty and Student Affairs Committee of the LSU Board of Supervisors, August 20, 2004 and approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors [2] View 2: Minutes of the LSU Board of Supervisors Meeting August 20, 2004 August 20, 2004. As described in Policy Statement 225 [3] View 3: PS 225 - Planning and Assessment , LSUA’s strategic planning process occurs every two years. As part of that process, the mission statement is reviewed and may be revised. The LSU Board of Supervisors will be asked to review LSUA’s mission statement as part of that process, and the Board must approve any proposed revisions.

The mission statement is published in the LSUA Catalog (p. 14) [4] View 4: LSUA Catalog 2005 , the LSUA Faculty Handbook (Section 1, p. 5) [5] View 5: LSUA Faculty Handbook - Section I , the LSUA Strategic Plan 2004-2006 (p. 2) [6] View 6: LSUA Strategic Plan 2004 - 2006 , the LSUA Student Handbook 2005-2006 (p. 4) [7] View 7: LSUA Student Handbook 2005 - 2006 , the LSUA Fact Book [8] View 8: LSUA Fact Book 2004 and on the university’s website [9] View 9: LSUA Website - Mission Statement.
