Administrators and academic officers at Louisiana State University at Alexandria are experienced, competent, and have the capacity to lead the institution. With the exception of a few department chairs, the administrators were selected for their positions after national searches and on-campus input from their various constituencies. In addition, these administrative appointments were approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors in accordance with the Bylaws & Regulations of the Board of Supervisors of the LSU System [1] View 1: Bylaws & Regulations of the LSU Board of Supervisors.

The executive administration at LSUA consists of a chancellor (CEO) and two vice chancellors. LSUA’s Chancellor, Dr. Robert Cavanaugh, has been at LSUA for nearly 36 years, and has held a series of progressively more responsible positions, including Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, prior to his selection as Chancellor in 1994. The Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Thomas Armstrong, has held the position since January 2005 and had many years of prior experience as a faculty member and all administrative levels. The Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administrative Services is Mr. David Wesse. Mr. Wesse began at LSUA in Fall 2003, but has many years of experience in higher education and as a higher education consultant. All of these executive-level positions were filled after national searches.

LSUA has two relatively new administrative positions as Deans of the recently-created College of Arts and Sciences and College of Professional Studies. Both deans were selected after national searches. Dr. Freddie Litton became Dean of the College of Professional Studies at LSUA in January 2004, but has many years of experience as a faculty member and administrator elsewhere. Dr. Edwin Martinez began his position as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences July 1, 2004. He also has many years of experience as a faculty member and in various administrative positions elsewhere.

The eight academic departments at LSUA are headed by Department Chairs. Some Department Chairs were selected after national searches, while others were previously Division Heads when LSUA was a two-year college. Most of the department chairs have several years of experience as faculty members.
