Comprehensive Standard 3.4.5
The institution publishes academic policies that adhere to principles
of good educational practice. These are disseminated to students,
faculty, and other interested parties through publications that
accurately represent the programs and services of the institution.

LSUA publishes two major publications that include academic policies and are accessible to anyone. These are the LSUA Catalog [1] and the LSUA Student Handbook [2] .
Each new student is provided a catalog at the time of admission and
catalogs are always available for purchase at a very low cost in the
LSUA Bookstore. Each student receives a Student Handbook annually. All
faculty receive copies of the Catalog and Student Handbook each year.
Both publications are available to the general public on the LSUA website.
These publications accurately represent the programs and services of
the institution and are updated annually to reflect any changes. LSUA’s
academic policies are similar to those published by other colleges in
Louisiana and elsewhere. The LSUA Catalog contains admission policies (p. 19-33) [3] , various policies on student records, grading, etc. (p. 47-56) [4] and information on degree requirements and graduation (p. 69-104) [5] . The Student Handbook contains policies on student privacy with respect to academic records (p.27) [6] , class attendance (p. 29) [7] , Code of Student Conduct (p. 31) [8] , student grievance procedures (including grade appeals) (p. 50) [9] , and students bringing children with them to class (p. 74) [10] , along with other policies that might be considered non-academic.
The LSUA Faculty Handbook [11]
contains copies of all LSUA Policy Statements. All of the Policy
Statements are also available to students and the public on the LSUA website. Policies that apply to faculty and students in relation to instruction include:
[12] Policy Statement 206 Student Class Attendance [13] Policy Statement 207 Student Grievance Procedure [14] Policy Statement 213 Professional Ethics [15] Policy Statement 217 Privacy Rights of Students [16] Policy Statement 218 Grades and Grading [17] Policy Statement 228 Code of Student Conduct [18] Policy Statement 231 Faculty Office Hours [19] Policy Statement 240 Guidelines for Syllabi Preparation [20] Policy Statement 242 Policy for Students with Disabilities
LSUA encourages faculty and supporting staff to maintain an
environment that supports learning and personal development. Faculty
are further encouraged to provide sufficient explanatory information
for students to understand what is required for successful completion
of classes and ultimately degree programs. A course syllabus [21]
is provided to each student by the faculty member teaching a class. The
syllabus provides the detailed academic policies pertinent to
successful completion of the individual class. Policy Statement 240
(Guidelines for Syllabi Preparation) [22] describes the minimum information to be included in a syllabus.
